Our Farm ~ Old Line Soays

Old Line Soays is located in the “Old Line” state of Maryland. We chose British Soay sheep to be the focal point of our conservation venture for an abundance of reasons:

This special breed of sheep is small enough that even the rams can be easily managed by one person. We have large jutting rocks in our pastures and the sheep do a wonderful job of maintaining and trimming around these hard to reach areas. Also, when turned out on a pasture that has been grazed by horses, Soay sheep complement the rotation process by eating down the high areas that horses have behind. All of our sheep are registered with the Rare Breed Survival Trust (RBST) in Great Britain.

In order to get greater exposure for the Soay breed, we exhibit our sheep each year, at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Show. We set-up an information booth at the Show, which is held at the Howard County Fairgrounds, in West Friendship, Maryland.

Our sheep have been enrolled in the U.S. Voluntary Scrapie Program. We belong to the Soay Sheep Society, are members of the RBST and the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.

We offer breeding stock, as well as Soay wool for sale. Please feel free to contact us for additional information.
